Self-care during the winter, among a pandemic.

Well that was a pretty heavy title wasn’t it!? Just reading it gave me a sad feeling. But sometimes, if you are like us, being in constant go go go (and hustle some more) mode it is pretty easy to overlook the gravity of the situation that we are in.

I mean lets be honest, winter can already be a tad bit depressing. As a society we tend to balance that with warm family gatherings and get togethers with friends to lift our spirits. But not this year! Here at Indigo Collective we, as I’m sure most of you, are happy to follow any guidelines that helps us get back to serving you at the standard we used to and getting back to ‘normal’. However, where does that leave us? Well...feeling kind drained.

That’s why we have decided to focus on self-care during February! Self-care is easy to overlook when you have other people and tasks to worry about. One can feel selfish to take the time away from other areas and dedicate it to themselves. As we say to each other all the time though, how are you going to help fill someone else's cup if yours is empty? The good o’l you’ve got to help yourself before you can help someone else. I get it, it’s hard. It’s not like there’s a physical injury where it’s OBVIOUS you need to take care of yourself. Though to be fair, mental burnout and just going through the motions is not far off.

We are going to have some great deals for February to help you with spending some time on yourself but until then here are some ideas to help lift your spirits during the dark time of the year and recharge a little.

Take a bath

Simple right? It’s so odd but I never think to take time for a bath. I sometimes find it hard to carve the time out and when I do most of the time I’m just laying there thinking about the things I have to get done. SO, if you are like me I’ve figured out a way to make it perfect for Self-Care February!

-Do it right before bed, so everything is done for the evening

-Start filling the bath with hot water

-Lay out your PJ’s and grab a cozy robe

-Light some candles and add some bath salts to the water (We just launched our Indigo Dreams Bath Soak! Just get in touch if you need one)

-Put on a guided meditation or spa music (Calm is a great app or you can find a bunch on YouTube)

-Adjust the temp of the bath water to your preference

-Turn off the lights

-Get in and RELAX

Read a book (or listen to a Podcast)

-Turn your phone on DO NOT DISTURB (this can be a little digital detox too)

-Grab a tall glass of water, make yourself a pot of tea or a big mug of hot chocolate

-Get cozy under a comfy blanket (my electric blanket is my best friend)

-Set an amount of time you are going to take for yourself (2 chapters, 1 episode, 20 min) whatever works for you!

-Pick a book or podcast that speaks to you! If you need help there are plenty of recommendations online by genre or topic, you are sure to find something that peaks your interest!

Journaling

If the last two just sounded like too much then this one should fit into anyone's schedule!

-Treat yourself to a cute journal, you can normally find fun ones at TJMaxx.

-Set aside 5 min (if that) each morning before you get your day started or right before you go to bed

-Write down 3 things you are grateful for. It doesn’t need to be anything intense or extremely thought out, this shouldn’t be stressful

-Repeat

-Whenever you are feeling down, or a bit negative it can be nice to look back and see everything that is going right
